It Started with a Reflection
The more experience I gained, the more I realized that while Medical Information had evolved into a distinct profession, the opportunities to learn it in a structured way remained surprisingly limited.
I had the privilege of working with talented professionals across different organizations and roles. They were committed to scientific accuracy, continuous learning, and supporting healthcare professionals with reliable, evidence-based information.
Yet I also noticed something else.
Many of us learned through a combination of workplace training, scattered resources, trial and error, and experience gained over time. While each of these played an important role, there seemed to be very little structured education dedicated exclusively to Medical Information.
The more I reflected on that question, the more I realised it wasn’t simply my own experience. It was a challenge shared by many professionals across the field.
My name is Dr. Doorva Bhat. After spending nearly a decade working in Medical Information and Medical Communications across pharmaceutical companies, global service providers, and independent consulting, I decided to build something that could contribute meaningfully to the profession that had given me so much.
That question eventually became the foundation of GMIA.
Why GMIA Exists
Medical Information has become a highly specialized profession that demands far more than answering scientific enquiries. Today’s professionals must critically evaluate evidence, communicate complex medical information with clarity, exercise sound professional judgement, recognize potential safety concerns, and support the responsible use of medicines. Yet dedicated education designed specifically for these responsibilities has remained limited. GMIA was established to bridge that gap by delivering structured, profession-focused learning experiences that help Medical Information professionals build lasting competence, greater confidence, and a deeper understanding of their profession every day.
What We Believe
Every profession deserves education designed specifically for its own practice, and Medical Information should be no exception. We believe learning should be practical, scientifically rigorous, and directly aligned with the responsibilities professionals encounter throughout their careers. Education should strengthen critical thinking, reinforce professional judgement, and encourage continuous development rather than simply enable course completion. We also believe certification should recognize demonstrated understanding and meaningful competence instead of mere participation. These principles guide every GMIA program, assessment, and educational experience we create.
Our Approach to Education
Professional competence is developed through structured learning, deliberate practice, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful real-world application over time. For that reason, every GMIA program is intentionally designed as a progressive learning journey rather than a collection of disconnected topics. Each module builds upon the previous one, strengthening knowledge while developing practical skills and professional judgement. Our objective extends beyond knowledge acquisition—we prepare professionals to evaluate evidence responsibly, communicate scientific information effectively, make informed decisions with confidence, and contribute meaningfully to Medical Information practice.
